Ontario Indigenous Summer Games

The Ontario Indigenous Summer Games (OISG), developed by the Aboriginal Sport and Wellness Council of Ontario (ASWCO) and funded by the Government of Ontario, are an important step in the sport development pathway for Indigenous youth.

From a sport perspective, the OISG provides an opportunity for high-performance athlete development, athlete talent identification, and sport specific training and preparation for participation in the North American Indigenous Games.

The Games are also important for the celebration of Indigenous cultures and communities’ youth distinct communities from across the province, have the opportunity to share and learn from each other and make connections that last a lifetime.

The last Ontario Indigenous Summer Games took place in 2016 within the Southwest Region (Six Nations of the Grand River), with thirty-five percent of the participants from Northern Ontario.

2019 Ontario Summer Indigenous Games

The bid process to host the 2019 Ontario Indigenous Summer Games is now open. ASWCO invites interested Ontario municipalities/communities to participate in the provincial bid process to determine the Host City/Community that will work with the governing body on welcoming young Indigenous athletes from around the province, for four days of sport and culture.
