Winter Festival Feb. 10-12
ASWCO, Fort Albany First Nation Partner For Winter Festival
MISSISSAUGA – The Aboriginal Sport & Wellness Council of Ontario (ASWCO) and Fort Albany First Nation, with the support of Ontario’s Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport are working together to host a winter festival from February 10th-12th, 2017. This festival will utilize the ice roads and bring all the surrounding communities together to attend this physical activity, wellness and cultural weekend event. These communities who are accessible include: Attawapiskat, Kashechewan, Moosonee and Moose Cree are all invited
Brent Edwards a Fort Albany community member and lead coordinator for this festival, will be working closely with Great Lakes Cultural Camps and the Aboriginal Sport & Wellness Council of Ontario to deliver a fun filled busy cultural weekend for youth and family members. Throughout the weekend, Activities could include traditional lacrosse, story telling and community crafts.
The Aboriginal Sport & Wellness Council of Ontario will also be hosting a multi-sport Aboriginal Team Ontario tryout for youth. Youth who are selected will have the chance to compete in the upcoming 2017 North American Indigenous Games in Toronto. Sports are still being determined.
